Duck Hook Cure: 4 Steps To Correcting That Golf Duck Hook
Author: Brayden Fisher | Category: Golf Books
This week’s lesson is entitled, “How to Cure a Golf Hook”, and if you’ve been battling a hook for a while you understand how frustrating they can be. Everyone else is, more than likely, slicing the ball, and you are playing from the opposite side of the fairway.
But… the hook really is pretty easy to cure. Try this sequence of corrections, and most likely the hook will be fixed in no time. Your goal in correcting a hook is to swing from outside to in.
1. Weaken your Grip – You could be playing with a grip that is too strong. Simply rotate both hands around the grip and towards the target. This will make it much harder for the clubface to close through the impact zone. Don’t over do it, and like everything else, testing is crucial. Make sure to test this, before moving on, unless you are positive that you already play with a weak grip.
2. Position the ball forward within your stance – Golfers who have a slice usually play the ball forward in their stance. Copy what they do. Since you have a hook, the result should be a much straighter ball. (Remember: It doesn’t matter whether you hook or slice the golf ball, your first goal is to learn how to do the opposite.) If you position the ball forward in your stance you will be well on your way to curing that golf hook.
3. Aim to the left of the target (aim right if left handed) – Begin with an open stance toward your target. This will enable you to put that clockwise rotation on the ball the you need. Just open your stance a little, and swing along the line of your shoulders.
4. Be sure to finish the swing with your weight on your front foot – This is by far the best solution to cure the golf hook. Most golfers who hook the ball finish with some of their weight on their back foot. This will cause a closed clubface at impact, and result in a hook. Focus on finishing your swing with all of your weight forward, and that nasty golf hook should not be a problem any longer.
