Know Your Golf Clubs – part one.

Okay lets go – A wood is a club usually used off the tee or fairway to hit long distances. The head is now usually made of metal, titanium. The shaft has a maximum length of 48 inches and is made of steel or graphite. The grips on the club are made up of various types of rubber.

Know Your Golf Clubs – part two.

The size of a drivers head is measured in cubic centimeters. The maximum size for a clubhead is up to 470 cc. Woods are numbered from 1 to 11 most popular would be 1, 2, 3, and 5. The number 1 wood is referred to as the DRIVER.

Rescue clubs are a combination of a wood and an iron. They have a loft of between 18 degrees and 24 degrees are are usually used instead of a 3 or 4 iron.

An iron has a head made of forged or cast steel. Iron are numbered 1 to 9. With the 1 hitting the longest distance and the 9 the shortest distance. The lie angle of a club, the angle between ground and shaft will vary from 58 degrees for an iron to 66 degrees for a sand wedge.

Wedges are iron clubs, consisting of pitching wedges for short play and a sand wedge for getting out of sand bunkers. PUTTERS – There are lots of designs of putters usually it is down to personal choice.

Here is some information on distances achieved by the average male golfer:

THE DRIVER 210 YARDS
THE 3 WOOD 200 YARDS
THE 5 WOOD 190 YARDS
THE 3 IRON 180 YARDS
THE 7 IRON 130 YARDS
THE 9 IRON 11O YARDS
THE PITCHING WEDGE 90 YARDS.
